Dana Petroleum, along with its partner in the project, Japan-based oil and gas company INPEX, have drilled the exploration well Nefertiti-2X by the end of 2012.
During the drilling, the well tested with an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP), flowed at a maximum stabilised rate of 1,850 bbls/day.
The field, which is slated to begin production in around six months, is expected to produce about 2,500 bbls/day of which 1,625 bbls/day is net to Dana.
Following the completion of the appraisal well, both the companies have agreed with the Egyptian General Petroleum Company on 7 November 2012 that the Nefertiti field was a commercial field.
The lease was approved by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Osama Kamal on 20 January 2013.
Dana Petroleum managing director Egypt Nick Dancer said that the Nefertiti field is the first offshore field that the firm has explored by drilling extended reach wells from an onshore location.
"Whilst increasing the complexity of the wells, it reduces the drilling and subsequent development costs and reduces development time as well as protecting the offshore environment including a number of coral reefs," Dancer added.
