The appraisal well 16/3-5 was spud on production license PL501 in the south eastern part of the Johan Sverdrup discovery in the North Sea sector of the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
Lundin spud the well through reservoir sections consisting mainly of good quality Volgian reservoir sand and Zechstein carbonates.
The company intersected the top of the Volgian reservoir sandstone at 1,893m below mean sea level and of the total gross reservoir column of about 30m, the gross Volgian reservoir is 14m.
The oil bearing Zechstein limestone is in pressure communication with the overlying sand and provides potential upside resources.
Lundin has sampled oil in both the reservoir zones and the well will now drill stem test the two zones.
The well is being drilled with the rig Bredford Dolphin and it is expected that the testing will take about 20 days time.
