As part of the turnkey project, the company will design, engineer, supply, erect and commission the substation.

ABB will refurbish and expand the 400kV outdoor switchyard, replace the 110kV outdoor switchgear and upgrade protection systems at the Hikia substation.

The project will be implemented in an operating network, requiring detailed planning and execution, the company said.

ABB will supply major products including the 400kV disconnecting circuit breakers and the 110kV gas-insulated switchgear for the project, which is expected to be completed by 2013.
