The contract is for a fixed three-year period, though Statoil has also secured two one-year options on the same conditions.

The semi-submersible rig, which can drill to depths of 400m, has been chartered for work on the Troll field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea until the second quarter of 2012.

Songa Trym will be deployed to drill new exploration wells from the third quarter of 2012.
