The development consent order (DCO) applications which will be submitted by developers of nationally significant infrastructure projects must be in line with the national policy statements which were approved by the UK parliament.
The government approved six national energy policies which include the overarching energy policy, fossil fuel electricity generating infrastructure, renewable energy infrastructure, gas supply infrastructure & gas and oil pipelines, electricity networks infrastructure and nuclear power generation.
GL Hearn can aid in helping project developers in statutory stages of stakeholder and community consultation prior to submitting a DCO application.
The DCO applications will cover projects which aim to reduce emissions by 30% by 2020 and by 80% by 2050, increase renewable electricity generation from 7% in 2009 to 30% in 2020 and to increase the electricity generation to 113GW by 2025.
