Silver Spring will install its multi-application, IPv6 network platform to connect Horizon Power’s 47,000 customers for an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) program.
Silver Spring Networks global sales executive vice president Eric Dresselhuys said: "We are honored to be working with Horizon Power to bring critical energy infrastructure to one of the largest geographic utility service terrains on earth.
"By deploying the Silver Spring multi-application network platform, Horizon Power should be able to leverage modern grid technology to deliver its services more efficiently."
The program forms part of the $34m Western Australian government-funded project, which aims to reduce operating costs associated with customer services costs and the servicing of meters in remote locations.
Horizon Power managing director Frank Tudor said: "Silver Spring’s multi-application smart grid platform will help us deliver benefits to our customers and set up a platform for future benefits to allow customers to better manage their energy use.
"The technology should also allow us to reduce the cost of providing electricity to our customers by removing the need to manually read our meters as well as automating the reconnect and disconnect process when customers move, which now can take our crews a number of days given the vastness of our service area."
