Under the contract, Petrofac, in partnership with Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), will work on the project.

The contract scope comprises greenfield and brownfield facilities, including engineering, procurement, construction (EPC); pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up and operations and maintenance work for the main central processing facility (CPF), associated infrastructure as well as the production support complex.

Petrofac will also be responsible for the construction a 162km pipeline to transport the heavy crude from the project’s CPF to South Tank Farm located in Ahmadi, from where it can be sent to the proposed Al-Zour refinery in the south of Kuwait.

Petrofac Onshore Engineering & Construction (OEC) business managing director Subramanian Sarma said: "This is a significant award for Petrofac in one of our core markets and complements the ongoing projects we have in hand for both KOC and Kuwait National Petroleum Company.

"With a track record extending over the last 14 years, it represents our eleventh project in the country and reinforces the strategic importance of Kuwait as part of our OEC portfolio. We look forward to working closely with CCC and KOC to deliver the project safely and on time."

Expected to be completed in approximately 52 months, the engineering, procurement and construction work will include 10 months of commissioning and ramp up work at the site.

The Lower Fars heavy oil project’s initial phase, upon fully operational, is expected to produce around 60,000 barrels of oil a day.
