Designed and manufactured by Alstom, each of these units comprise an 800MW class Francis turbine coupled to an 889 MVA generator.
A single unit is estimated to have annual production capacity to fulfill electricity needs of 5 million people.
Alstom Hydro China general manager Yves Rannou said that the successful commercial operation of the four units demonstrates the company’s commitment towards Chinese hydropower sector.
"With its operational excellence and state-of-the-art technology, Alstom is best positioned to work along with Chinese customers to actively respond to the new challenges for the country’s hydro power industry," added Rannou.
Owned by the China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), the Xiangjiaba plant will feature eight units and is anticipated to be the third largest hydro project.
The project is a significant part of country’s West to East Electricity Transfer Programme to cater to electricity deficiency in the eastern provinces.
Alstom has a long-standing partnership with CTG, including deliveries of Three Gorges Left Bank comprising eight units of 700MW, Three Gorges Right Bank involving six units of 700MW and 2 700MW unit contract of Three Gorges Underground.
