
Under the contract, Ratos subsidiary Aibel will be responsible for the engineering work, procurement and construction (EPC) the drilling platform deck.
The oil field, which is expected to cost NOK170bn ($22.3bn) to NOK220bn ($28.8bn), is estimated to have recoverable resources of between 1.7 and 3.0 billion barrels oil equivalent.
The platform deck for the drilling platform will feature three modules, of which the largest module, the main support frame (MSF), will be built by Aibel at its yard in Thailand.
The second largest module, drilling support module (DSM), will be developed at the company’s yard in Haugesund while the final module, the drilling equipment set (DES), will be manufactured by partner Nymo in Grimstad.
The Aibel’s yard in Haugesund will carry out assembly and mechanical work of the deck with delivery scheduled in 2018.
Statoil technology, projects & drilling executive vice president Margareth Øvrum said: "The drilling platform is one of four platforms in the planned field centre and it is a complex and challenging project in itself."
The initial phase of the project Johan Sverdrup development project includes four installations including an accommodation a drilling, a riser and process platform, as well as three seabed templates for water injection.
The Johan Sverdrup partnership includes Statoil, Lundin Norway, Petoro, Det norske oljeselskap and Maersk Oil.
