In what is believed to be the largest multi-set power installation in Africa, Cummins has signed a contract to supply 30 MWe. Thirty nine 900 kWe diesel gensets will operate in parallel at Tema H.

Ghana has seen a serious reduction of rain fall over recent years, which has resulted in a dramatic reduction in the water level in the Volta reservoir. As 80 per cent of Ghana’s electricity is generated by hydropower, the water shortfall has caused major power supply problems.

The 39 base load gensets at Tema H are rated at 900 kWe, 50 Hz, 3300 V, and are powered by Cummins KTA50 16-cylinder diesel engines driving Cummins-Newage alternators. The gensets will feature the PowerCommand Control System for all synchronising and paralleling duties.
