The renewable assets under consideration are located in Brazil, China, India, Peru, Chile, South Africa and Uruguay.
The company has signed deals with Renova Energia, Honiton Energy, Fersa EnergÃas Renovables, Latin American Power, Chint Solar (Zhejang), Solarpack and a South African renewable energy company.
With these deals, SunEdison has secured 1,918MW of third party right of first offer (ROFO) projects.
SunEdison CEO Ahmad Chatila said: "SunEdison intends to act quickly to address the opportunity in emerging markets, where the majority of future global electric power infrastructure investments will be deployed."
Under an agreement with Renova Energia, SunEdison will acquire 336MW wind and hydro assets in Brazil.
The company will also gain access to a ROFO for 1,870MW as well as a ROFO for future Renova-developed pipeline projects. It intends to acquire a 16% stake in Renova.
In China, SunEdison will purchase Honiton Energy’s two wind development and operations and maintenance companies, which own 150MW of three operating utility-scale wind projects.
In addition to acquiring six operating hydropower plants in Peru from Latin American Power, the US firm will secure a 70% interest in a 34MW of wind and solar projects from a major South African renewable energy firm.
SunEdison will buy 102MW of Indian wind projects from Fersa EnergÃas Renovables as well as a 51% equity interest in a 23.1MW solar project in India from a Chint Solar affiliate.
As part of the deal with Spain-based Solarpack, SunEdison will take over Alto Cielo, which owns a 26MW solar power project under construction in Tomás Gomensoro, Uruguay.
Subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, the transactions are expected to be closed by third quarter this year.
SunEdison said it secured $175m of equity investments from Blackstone, Everstream and Altai as well as $362m debt facility with JPMorgan Chase Bank, Barclays, Citi and Morgan Stanley, to fund acquisitions of renewable energy projects.
