Williams, an American company that owns and operates natural gas pipeline system, has secured a certificate of public convenience and necessity from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) authorizing the Gateway Expansion Project of the Transco natural gas pipeline.

The project has been designed to create 65,000 dekatherms per day of firm transportation capacity for markets in the northeast.
The Gateway project is intended to help meet the natural gas demand by consumers in New Jersey and New York in time for the 2020-2021 winter heating season, providing natural gas service to PSEG Power (PSEG) and UGI Energy Services.
The project has been designed to minimize impact on community and environment by maximizing the utilization of existing pipeline infrastructure. Almost all the project activities will be within Transco’s existing rights of way and/or property boundaries.
The project includes the addition of electric horsepower at an existing Transco compressor station in Essex County, New Jersey, in addition to the modification of two Transco meter stations in Passaic County and Essex County.
Williams expects the construction on the Gateway Expansion Project to commence in the spring of 2019, and begin operations on 1 November 2020.
PSEG supplies its affiliate Public Service Electric & Gas, New Jersey’s largest provider of electric and gas service, serving 2.2 million electric customers and 1.8 million gas customers.
UGI Energy Services supplies natural gas and electricity to 40,000 customers in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern US.
Transco supplies natural gas to customers through its 10,000-mile pipeline network, with a mainline that extends 1,800 miles from South Texas to New York City.
The system provides cost-effective natural gas services in 12 Southeast and Atlantic Seaboard states, including metropolitan areas in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
