The Worldwide Fund for Nature has called on the Polish Government to stop plans for construction of the Lower Vistual Cascade, a series of seven hydroelectric plants, according to the PAP news agency.

The cascade is due to be constructed from Wyszograd, 50km west of Warsaw, to Poland’s Baltic sea coast. However, the Fund says the project will cause environmental damage to the Vistula river. It said that it could help Poland finance alternative development projects for the Vistula if the Polish government decides not to go ahead with the power project.
