The ministry said that it has received company’s request to restart the reactor and will soon examine and evaluate the documents.
Wolfgang Cloosters, head of reactor safety at the ministry, said Based on past experience the decision about the request will be made in a matter of days, rather than weeks.
Vattenfall’s Kruemmel reactor and the 771-megawatt Brunsbuettel nuclear plant were shut down due to glitches in June 2007. After the outages at both facilities, the authorities discovered thousands of faulty screw anchors at plant components that needed replacing. The repair works have dragged on for nearly two years.
Vattenfall and E.ON AG jointly owns the Kruemmel and Brunsbuettel reactors.
