UK-based Thames Water has selected Indian information technology firm Wipro for retail billing and customer service transformation.

Thames Water serves about 15 million consumers in London and in Thames Valley region.

Under the contract, Wipro will develop new IT system and processes that help the water firm to enhance customer experience and bring operational efficiencies.

The transformation will allow Thames Water to compete in the new Open Water deregulated market.

From April 2017, 1.2 million business / non-household customers in the UK will have the right to select their water supplier.

Wipro will help the water firm deploy a fast-paced SAP industry solution for utilities billing, a new market integration gateway and cloud-based customer relationship management platform with help of SAP Hybris Cloud for Customer.

The SAP-qualified Wipro SaFeWater Rapid Deployment Solution will be used in the installation process.

Wipro said the solution has pre-built water industry-specific business processes for supporting the accelerated delivery of complex transformations.

Thames Water customer service and retail managing director Ian Cain said: "The integrated solution that will be rolled out is intended to help Thames Water capture a single and unified view of each customer and will thereby, provide us with deeper insights about them, through analytics.

"This will enable us to have more meaningful interactions with our customers and help us serve them better."
