The model test for the turbines of the Ethiopian hydro power plant Gibel Gibe has been successfully completed under a contract awarded to Voith Hydro, the company says.

All essential parameters, such as efficiencies and outputs during various operating conditions were met or exceeded, according to Voith Hydro. In addition, the geometry of the model was also checked. Manufacture of the prototype of the three 70MW Francis turbines due to be supplied to the plant has begun.

Three spherical valves and governors are also part of Voith Hydro’s supply.

Commissioning of the plant is scheduled for 2002.
