Located in the Erongo region of western-central Namibia, Husab is the largest granite-hosted uranium deposit in the region.
The Husab deposit is estimated to produce 15 million pounds of uranium oxide (U3O8) a year.
As per reserve estimations, the low-risk, large-scale open pit mine has a potential mine life of over 20 years containing uranium reserves of at least 280 million tons.
The mine is scheduled to begin first production by end of 2015, while the project construction is projected to be undertaken for about 34 months.
Swakop Uranium is a wholly-owned Namibian subsidiary of Taurus Minerals, which is in turn owned by China Guangong Nuclear Power Company, Uranium Resources and the China-Africa Development Fund.
