Suzlon Energy, a wind turbine manufacturer, has secured an order from Vedanta Group firm Hindustan Zinc to set up, operate and maintain 150MW of wind power projects in India.

The wind farms, which will be developed across the Indian states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, entail a total investment of approximately INR8.65bn ($191m).

The power projects will be completed in two phases, the first 50MW by March 2011 and remaining 100MW progressively by September 2011.

Suzlon will supply a mix of its S82-1.5MW and S88-2.1MW wind turbine models to the projects.

The power generated by the wind farms will be purchased by the respective state’s distribution utilities at the prevailing feed-in tariff under a long term power purchase agreement.
