The 2MW capacity project in Evros and 4.4MW project in Orestiada will sell their output to Greek Public Power Corporation, each under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

A third 1MW project is currently under construction in Rhodopi expected to be completed by mid-September of 2012.

SPI CEO Stephen Kircher said that the projects were the first large-scale solar energy facilities to be completed in the country and mark an important milestone for the company.

"As Greece continues to diversify its energy sources, we will continue to pursue additional projects across the country," added Kircher.

The company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Taneo Fund to develop 23MW of utility scale solar facilities across Greece.
