The order was placed by a consortium comprising Saudi Arabia-based Al Arrab Contracting Company and Chinese Sepco III Electric Power Construction Corp.

Siemens will supply 12 gas turbines, ten heat-recovery steam generators, five steam turbines, and the associated auxiliary and ancillary systems for the Ras Az Zawr power plant.

The plant with an associated seawater desalination facility will be built about 75km northwest of the Jubail city and is expected to begin commercial operation in 2014.

The facility will supply electricity for an aluminum smelting plant and about 225 million imperial gallons per day of drinking water for the capital city of Riyadh.
