US nuclear energy regulator is set to announce the results of its review of the Grand Gulf nuclear power plant’s license renewal application on 31 January 2013.

Officials of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) have inspected the power plant’s aging management programs within the scope of license renewal.

The NRC team has evaluated the processes used to determine what systems, structures and components are required to be monitored for aging effects.

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, located near Port Gibson in Mississippi, has been reviewed by the NRC team following an application from the plant operator Entergy Operations, for the extension of license by 20 years.

The existing operating license for the Grand Gulf nuclear power plant expires on 1 November 2024. Entergy Operations submitted the license renewal application on 1 November 2011.
