Taiwan’s Shihmen hydro power dam is to be closed until mid-2005 after silt and debris from recent flooding started to affect the function of the facility.
Engineers are to carry out dredging work until next May in order to clean up large quantities of solid material brought in by Typhoon Aere, announced the Northern Region Water Resources Office.
Shihmen dam is located on the Da-Han river creating a 133m high reservoir with a storage capacity of 680,000m3.
