Samsung said it will immediately begin the detailed engineering in Seoul, Korea.
SOCC is a joint venture between SABIC affiliate, Saudi Specialty Chemical (SPECIALTY CHEM) and Albemarle Corp subsidiary, Albemarle Netherlands.
The SOCC facility will be constructed in Jubail Industrial City, at the SPECIALTY CHEM site, with a completion date projected for third quarter of next year.
The facility will initially manufacture 6000mt per year of Tri Ethyl Aluminum, the key co-catalyst used in polyolefin production.
Albemarle said this product is currently supplied to the region from its facilities in Europe, Asia and North America and will be supplied from the SOCC plant to regional customers upon plant startup.
US-based Albemarle is a developer, manufacturer and marketer of highly-engineered specialty chemicals.
