Owned by Rurelec’s 93% indirect subsidiary Empresa de Generacion Electrica Canchayllo, the Canchayllo power plant is located in Junin Province and is one of six small hydro developments undertaken by Rurelec.

Three additional small hydro projects (6MW to 18MW each) are also being developed by the company in the same Junin region.

In September 2013, Rurelec acquired Cascade Hydro, which has a portfolio of more than 300MW of hydro-electric projects under development in Peru.

The company’s main business includes the ownership and development of power generation facilities on national and regional grids as well as in isolated areas.

Rurelec also sells wholesale electricity as a generator on commercial terms, via capacity payments or power purchase agreements.

The company’s current businesses include an operational plant in Argentina, development of new plants in Chile, as well as sponsorship of new generation capacity in Bangladesh.
