British oil company BP said that the production at the Rumaila Operating Organisation (ROO) in southern Iraq has increased more than 10% from the 1.066 million barrels a day initial rate agreed in December 2009.

BP is the lead contractor in ROO while PetroChina and Iraq’s state-owned South Oil Company are the partners.

In November last year, BP, PetroChina, the Oil Marketing Company of Iraq (SOMO) and South Oil Company signed two contractual requirements of a technical services agreement (TSA).

The approval of the Rumaila rehabilitation plan and the production meeting target is in line with the achievement of these two contractual requirements of the TSA.

In the past year, 20 new rigs have moved on to the field and 41 wells have been drilled while 103 workovers have been completed and 122km of flowlines laid down.

In addition, the first phase of a major new headquarters and accommodation complex in south Rumaila has been completed.
