Gujarat’s Minister of Energy and Petrochemicals reported that Gujarat state government in India is expected to ink series of memorandum of understandings (MoUs) in the renewable energy sector, particularly in the wind power sector, during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investor's Summit (VGGIS) 2009. It was also reported that the companies are expected to sign agreements for establishing power plant projects in renewable energy sector for generation of 50 to 1,000 MW.

Government has received a good response in all the four sectors with new key players of the industry showing willingness to avail benefits being offered in the state, Minister of Energy and Petrochemicals Saurabhbhai Patel said.

The new policies declared have not only found favour with the investors but also addresses the issue of climate change and global warming, Patel added.

During VGGIS 2009, some of the renewable energy companied anticipated to sign MoUs are Solitaire Energy, Vestas Wind Energy Technology, Suzlon Gujarat Windpark, Next Gen Syndicate, Astonfield Solar, Wellspun Urja, Enercon India Ltd, Moser Baer Energy, Caritas International and Swiss Park Vanija, Abellon Bio-energy Ltd and others.

Similarly, the conventional power segment is also anticipated to draw major companies like L&T Power Development Limited, who is planned to sign MoU for setting up 1,680 MW coal-based power plant at Junagadh or Hazira, besides Shapoorji Pallonji Energy for a 2000 MW plant, GMR for 2000 MW power plant and Adani power for 2000 MW power plant at Dholera.
