The project is located in the Arlit uranium-mining district of northern Niger.

GoviEx Uranium chief executive officer Daniel Major said: "Filing the mining permit application is a key step in the mine development process.

"We are maintaining a bullish long-term view for nuclear reactor builds as part of the solution required to combat global air pollution, particularly in Asia, and the Madaouela Project has the potential to supply the market when market conditions improve."

Toshiba and Cameco are major shareholders of GoviEx, which intends to become a significant uranium producer via the continued exploration and development of its Madaouela and other properties in Niger.

The Madaouela property is located in the Tim Mersoi basin, which covers majority of the western portion of the Republic of Niger with extensions in Algeria, Mali, Benin and Nigeria.

There are two producing mines in the Arlit region that are immediately adjacent to the Madaouela project.
