The emptying of the Doiras dam reservoir in northern Spain is alleged to have killed nearly 200,000 trout. Now the Asturias region’s agriculture department plans to bill the electric company responsible for the dam to replace the trout population. The dam, on the Navia river, was emptied for over 10 days to carry out repairs to one of its hydroelectric turbines. The dam’s inaccessibility impeded efforts by local officials to rescue the stranded fish.
