Equipped with 13 wind turbines of 2.3MW each, the plant is the first of the three plants being built at the Cristal wind power complex totaling 90MW.
To be built in Morro do Chapéu, the project, which could generate over 145 million kWh of electricity per year, brings the company’s total installed capacity in Brazil to over 120MW including 93MW from hydro power.
The proposed €165m Cristal complex calls for the development of three wind farms in the municipalities Morro do Chapeu, Cafarnaum and Bonito in Bahia.
With the completion of the latest plant, the company is strengthening its presence in the Brazilian renewable energy market.
Enel has recently secured a contract for 11MW of solar power in Brazil that will be added to its 503MW of renewable contracts it received in the 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 public auctions in the country.
