US-based gas and electricity utility Consumers Energy has awarded a contract to Moran Iron Works for the fabrication of clean-air equipment for its coal-fired plants.

Under the $19m contract, Moran Iron will provide clean-air equipment and be responsible for the flue gas duct work for Consumers Energy’s J.H. Campbell Complex Unit 3, which is its largest coal-fired generating plant located in West Olive.

Consumers Energy senior vice president of energy resources Jack Hanson said the metal fabrication on clean-air equipment by Moran Iron Works is second-to-none.

"Our Promise to Michigan includes supporting homegrown companies like Moran and working together to bring value to our customers and our state." Hanson added.

Moran Iron has also provided clean air equipment to Consumer Energy’s J.H. Campbell Complex Unit 1, 2 and D.E. Karn Units 1 and 2, near Essexville.
