US-based construction and engineering company Bechtel has secured a contract from Qatar Petroleum-Qatar Petrochemical Company (QP-QAPCO) partnership to provide project management services for the Al Sejeel Petrochemical Complex in Ras Laffan.

Under the contract, Bechtel will provide project management services throughout the course of the project. The services will start with the front-end engineering design phase to ensure quality, safety, and timely completion of the project.

Bechtel Oil, Gas and Chemicals business unit president Jack Futcher said, "We are looking forward to working with QP-QAPCO to achieve the vision of making the Al Sejeel Petrochemical Complex a major contributor to the Qatari economy."

QP-QAPCO’s Al Sejeel Petrochemical Complex will have an ethylene cracker and process feedstock from natural gas projects located in the north of Qatar.

The petrochemical complex will produce ethylene, high-density polyethylene, linear low-density polyethylene, polypropylene, and butadiene.

The complex is expected to become operational in 2018.
