Astoria Energy II starts commercial operations in New York

The new $1.3bn Astoria Energy II plant in New York, US has begun commercial operations.

GDF SUEZ owns 70% of the 575MW gas fired project while the rest is owned by IPR-GDF SUEZ North America amounting to $109m.

Under a 20 year power purchase contract, the project will sell its entire output to the New York Power Authority.

IPR Philip Cox CEO said the project adds to the company’s existing interest in the 575MW Astoria Energy I facility thereby strengthening its North America portfolio.
