Some 340 boiler jobs are to be lost in Europe and the US in 'right sizing' move

Power giant Alstom has announced the restructuring of its Utility Boilers business, part of its Power Turbo systems / Power Environment Sector which focuses on supplying new clean-coal boilers and providing products and services to coal-based power plants.

Citing the need to ‘right-size’ the unit in the face of a decline in the market for Europe and the US, with a shift of a substantial proportion of the market to Asia, Alstom is being forced to make redundancies. Consequently, staff of the European operation at two locations in Germany and in France with be cut. In Stuttgart, Germany, some 200 out of 300 jobs would be retained while in France approximately 50 positions out of 250 currently in Vélizy would be retained and re-located to the Paris region.

Over in the US the Windsor, Connecticut, operation will lose up to 40 jobs.
