Itron will also provide its managed service and data delivery Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings for the Texas-based utility, enabling them to achieve valuable insights and operational success. As one of the largest municipal utilities in Texas, LP&L will utilize the solution to improve service for its nearly 107,000 electricity customers.

Itron will upgrade LP&L’s electricity system with its open, standards-based network and OpenWay Riva smart meters to improve billing accuracy and eliminate manual meter reading. With near real-time access to granular consumption data, the utility will equip customers to track and better manage their electricity use, giving them an in-depth look at usage patterns. The solution will also improve outage management and service reliability with the ability to pinpoint outage locations, send automatic alerts to customers and restore power more quickly.

With Itron’s managed service and SaaS offerings, Itron will manage network operations, endpoints and cloud infrastructure on LP&L’s behalf. Itron’s solution will enable LP&L to focus on its core business operations, achieve meaningful outcomes and benefits, reduce its IT burden and streamline operations. With this solution, LP&L can also reduce operational expenses and predict and control costs more efficiently.

“LP&L is committed to upgrading our system and investing in modern technology,” said Greg Taylor, LP&L Electric Utility board chairman. “The metering technology currently employed by LP&L passed its relevant life decades ago. With the implementation of advanced meters, LP&L will be joining the vast majority of our fellow Texas utilities in providing our customers more information and control over their energy usage.”

“With Itron’s smart network, LP&L will have access to real-time information about their electricity distribution network to improve outage management and deliver more responsive service to customers.” said Sharelynn Moore, senior vice president of Networked Solutions at Itron. “Additionally, by investing in our smart network, LP&L will be equipped to implement smart city applications in the future to help address growing energy demand.”
