As per Gemma Power Systems, it has received limited notice to begin with the preliminary design and site preparation activities for Guernsey Power Station. Full-fledged construction of the plant is expected to begin in spring this year and the plant is scheduled for completion in 2022.

Power trains for the facility will be supplied by GE, which will be utilize single shaft 7HA.02 gas turbines.

Each power train will include of one H-Class gas turbine equipped with evaporative inlet cooling, one triple pressure reheat steam turbine and one water/hydrogen cooled electric generator arranged on a common single shaft.

Guernsey Power Station is being jointly developed by Caithness Energy and Apex Power Group. The power plant will be located near the heart of the state’s Utica and Marcellus shale gas development area.

This project is expected to boost the local economy through the economic activity, while adding to tax revenue for the local community.

Caithness president and chief operating officer Les Gelber said: “Caithness is excited to be partnering again with Gemma on this important project. Gemma recently completed our 1,080 MW Freedom natural gas-fired power plant which was constructed for the lowest cost per installed kilowatt of any recent project in the region.

“We are looking forward to continuing to improve and strengthen our relationship with Gemma on this project.”

In June 2018, Gemma secured an EPC contract for the Chickahominy Power Station, a 1.6GW natural gas-fired power plant, to be located in Charles City County, Virginia. The Chickahominy plant is expected to include three advanced class combustion turbine power trains in single shaft configuration and will include air cooled condensers for limited use of water.

The project was expected to begin in the first quarter of 2019 and be completed in the spring of 2022.

Upon commissioning, the Chickahominy power station will provide enough electricity to power two million homes.
