Indian wind turbine manufacturer Suzlon has secured an order from Saudi Arabian energy company Alfanar Energy to supply 50.4MW turbines.

As per the order, Suzlon will supply 24 of its 2.1MW S111-90m wind turbine generators. The maiden order from Alfanar for Suzlon is scheduled to be completed by next March.   

Suzlon says that its S11X 2.1MW platform of turbines feature Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) technology, which is claimed to be designed for optimal harnessing of wind resources.

The order will be executed by Suzlon on a turnkey basis and will also offer operations and maintenance services for the wind farm. As per Suzlon, the wind farm will be able to provide clean energy for more than 27,000 households, while offsetting 100,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year.

Alfanar Energy general manager of development Wasim Mallouhi said “This is our maiden project in the Indian renewable sector and we are happy to work with Suzlon, who are the pioneers of wind technology in the country, besides their project execution capabilities made Alfanar select them for this project.

“It is our endeavour to provide clean and green energy and have set an ambitious plan to set up 2.2 GW of renewable projects in India, MENA and Africa in the next five years.”

Alfanar Energy is a fully owned subsidiary of the Alfanar Group, which aims to set up 2.2GW of renewable energy projects in the next five years, with focus on wind, solar and biomass primarily in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), India and Southern Africa.

Recently in April this year, Suzlon received an order to supply turbines of 100.8MW from ReNew Power Ventures. The wind project will be located in Madhya Pradesh state of India.
