Duke Energy Renewables will build, own and operate the 202MW Los Vientos II windpower project in the US state of Texas.

The company will start construction of the wind facility in Willacy County by December this year and expects to begin operations by the end of next year.

Upon completion of a supply agreement with a turbine maker, the company will decide the number of turbines to be installed at the facility.

The Los Vientos II wind farm will be the second phase of a 402MW-total project announced on 8 August 2011.

The first phase, the Los Vientos I wind farm, is also expected to online by the end of next year.

US-based CPS Energy has agreed to buy all of the output from the first phase of the project under the terms of a 25-year power purchase agreement.

Austin Energy has agreed to buy the electricity and renewable energy credits generated by the seconf phase of the wind farm under a 25-year agreement.

Duke Energy Renewables president Greg Wolf said the Los Vientos II project will help the company put an additional 770MW of wind power into operation in next year.
