Zimbabwe has started importing cheap power from Mozam-bique. The intertie linking the two electricity grids became operational last month. Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) sources said that the country is now importing 400 million units of power from Cabora Bassa hydro-power Station in Songo, in Mozambique, through the Songo-Bindura-Dema 420kV interconnector. Mozambique has now become Zimbabwe’s single largest source of energy.

Previously Zimbabwe used to rely heavily on Zambia, South Africa and Zaire for its power imports.
