X Energy and Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company have entered into a memorandum of understanding as a step toward deployment of X-energy's High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTGR): the Xe-100. Burns & McDonnell, a full-service engineering, construction and environmental solutions firm, will work with X-energy as their architectural and engineering partner.

This partnership is formed in parallel with the execution of X-energy's five-year U.S. Department of Energy Advanced Reactor Concept Cooperative Agreement award.

"As we move toward deployment of our Xe-100, we are working hard to put together a team that will move us to market as quickly as possible," said X-energy CEO Dr. Kam Ghaffarian. "Partnering with a 100-year-old worldwide innovative leader in architecture, engineering, and construction will give X-energy a great head start. Having Burns & McDonnell join our team, which includes Southern Nuclear, is great news as we collectively work towards deploying a safe, economical source of clean energy that will play a vital role in tomorrow's energy landscape."

"Nuclear energy will be a growing part of our country's future energy mix and we're excited to be part of the team that will make sure the Xe-100 is part of that future," said Rick Halil, Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Burns & McDonnell Energy division. "We have decades of experience designing some of the most advanced power facilities in the world and we are ready to put that experience to work with the X-energy team."
