Wärtsilä has acquired Weir American Hydro from the Weir Group in a bid to strengthen its presence in hydro and industrial services.

Finnish genset manufacturer Wärtsilä has acquired Weir American Hydro from the Weir Group in a bid to strengthen its increasing presence in hydro and industrial services.

American Hydro is a leading supplier and installer of large equipment upgrades and servicing for the hydroelectric and water distribution industries, specialising in consultancy, design and precision performance enhancements for hydro-turbines and pumps.

The acquisition will enable Wärtsilä to expand its existing global Hydro and Industrial service offering. It will merge the acquired unit into its services business.

"The acquisition supports our growth strategy and expansion in renewables, improving our offering and services towards our customers," commented Pierpaolo Barbone, president, Wärtsilä Services.
