Construction work has started at the Tua Srah hydroelectric power plant in Vietnam’s Dac Lac province. The plant will cost US$142M to construct, with funding coming from Electricity of Vietnam and in the form of soft loans from domestic and foreign sources.

According to the Vietnamese News Agency, the plant will generate 360MkWh of electricity each year, with its 430Mm3 reservoir to irrigate surrounding farmland. The plant is scheduled to begin generating power by late 2008 and is targeted for completion in 2009.

The Tua Srah hydro power plant will not only boost socio-economic development in Dac Lac and Dac Nong provinces, but also in the whole Central Highlands region, said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
