Madison Gas and Electric announced that it has started construction of the largest wind farm in the eastern US.
The $14.5 million wind farm will have 11.2 MWe capacity. The farm will include 17 wind turbines, and the units will start delivering electricity by June 1999.
Customers choosing to receive 20 per cent of their power from wind energy will pay an additional $5 per month, an increase of about 10 per cent. Greg Bollom, assistant vice president, said the company was having little difficulty finding customers willing to pay the extra cost.
