Norwegian group to build wind power desalination plant

A consortium of Norwegian firms will provide 100% equity in a wind powered integrated desalination plant in Sindh, India, according to local media reports. Universidad De La Laguna, consultant to the project has carried out preliminary feasibility studies for a wind power integrated desalination plant including sale to KESC and purchase of energy during low-wind velocity.

The project cost is millions of euros, although the final cost estimate has not yet been calculated. Nonetheless, approximate figures show that desalinated water would cost some Ps 9 per gallon ($0.002), while the wind energy would be available at Rs 3.20/kWh ($0.006 kWh).
