The company has signed a memorandum of understanding and an expression of interest with the government of Karnataka to develop 100MW and 750MW wind projects in the districts of Bijapur, Chitradurga and Belgaun.

Welspun Energy co-founder and managing director Vineet Mittal said, "We want to help create a greener empowered India and through our renewable energy projects Welspun Energy is effecting a change on the ground. With the signing of these two projects we have moved exponentially forward in this direction."

The state is a generating about 6.7% of the country’s electricity and according to Karnataka Udyog Mitra, a state organization, the state offers a potential of 3,500 MW of wind power and 10,000MW of solar power projects.

Welspun is working to develop a cumulative target of 1.7GW of wind and solar energy projects, which will serve as many as nine million households in India.
