The ground-mounted array will employ 3,276 PV panels to produce 1,108MWh of electricity and power Mace’s Lane Middle School in Cambridge under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

The solar array will to be located on a property owned by the Dorchester County Public Schools and is expected to be operational by 2012.

Washington Gas Energy Systems business development vice president Sanjiv Mahan remarked that investing in the development of renewable energy resources is a high priority to the company.

Kenyon Energy senior vice president Michael Dykstra said, "As part of our on-going commitment to help Maryland achieve its renewable energy goals, we look forward to working with Dorchester County Public Schools and Washington Gas Energy Systems throughout the development of this significant solar system to help power Mace’s Lane Middle School."

The system will owned by Washington Gas Energy while Kenyon Energy will install the system.
