Denmark-based Vestas Wind Systems has plans to eastablish a manufacturing unit in southeast England, to develop its new 7MW offshore turbines.

The comapny has signed an option agreement for 70 hectares of land at the Port of Sheerness, Kent.

The company said construction of the unit is dependent on regulatory certainty and public investment to lower the risks involved in building offshore wind farms, reports Bloomberg.

The U.K. offshore wind-industry investment could total $8bn to $16.2bn by 2020, according to the UK Carbon Trust.
