Vestas has been awarded a contract by BMR Energy to deliver turbines for the 36.3MW BMR Jamaica wind project in Saint Elizabeth Parish.
Under the contract, Vestas will supply, install and commission 11 units of its V112-3.3MW turbines.
Vestas will also be responsible for civil and electrical works for the project, which also includes construction of an interconnection transmission line by the local utility.
The company plans to deliver the turbines in the third quarter of 2015, with commissioning of the wind farm planned in the first quarter of 2016.
BMR Energy president Bruce Levy said: "Jamaica is located in an area prone to hurricanes. Vestas’ long experience in wind technologies and different weather conditions make it an ideal partner for this project, which requires cutting-edge technology to guarantee the continuous and sustainable operation of the wind power plant at all times."
The BMR Jamaica wind farm, upon completion, is expected to generate enough energy for about 300,000 people in Jamaica.
The project has an estimated gross annual production of over 120GWh, resulting in the reduction of 85,400 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
