Venture Energy Resources Company Limited’s (Venture Energy Resources) 35.5 megawatts (MW) gas turbine has begun commercial operation in Bhola, Bangladesh. The gas turbine was established by the company at an estimated cost of BDT3.5 billion at Kheyaghat area of Bhola district. The power needs of the island district are estimated at only 13 MW. The surplus amount of electricity would be included in the national grid to provide power to Jhalakathi, Barisal, Pirojpur, Patuakhali districts.

ATM Nadiruzzaman, Venture Energy Resources’ project director stated to BSS that since May 9, 2009, the gas turbine was experimentally run in five phases prior to going into commercial generation on May 15, 2009.

Officials stated that Bhola district has turn into a load shedding free zone from May 19, 2009 and there is possibility of massive industrialization of the region following the commercial operation of the gas turbine.

Officials from Venture Energy Resources, PDB and BAPEX attended the ceremony for the launch of the commercial operation of the turbine.
