Vandana Power Infratech has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to build up a 2400MW coal-based power plant in Navalakhi port in Kutch district, Gujarat, India.

The company has identified about 2000 acres of land in Navalakhi for the construction of the power plant with four generation units of 600MW each worth a total of INR100bn (approximately $2.1bn)

Vandana Power intends to start the first unit of the plant by 2014-15, upon receiving required approvals from the government.

The company will import the coal at the Navalakhi port itself, and the plant will be based on the super critical technology.

The company is also constructing a 300MW thermal plant in Chattisgarh scheduled to become operational by June 2011.
