Snohomish County in Washington, US, has selected smart energy networking platform and solutions provider, Silver Spring Networks, for the initial phase of a distribution automation (DA) project with Snohomish County Public Utility District (PUD).

Snohomish County PUD serves over 320,000 electricity and 20,000 water customers in northwestern Washington state.

The county has designed its DA program to improve the reliability, efficiency, and resiliency of its distribution grid by leveraging Silver Spring’s IPv6 networking platform and distribution automation solution.

Snohomish County PUD Distribution & Engineering Services assistant general manager Chris Heimgartner said, "Silver Spring’s standards-based networking platform allows us to not only connect, monitor and control DA equipment in the field today, but to also create the long-term foundation for deployment of additional smart grid solutions in the future."

Silver Spring Networks Sales executive vice president Dan Middleton said, "Our industry-leading DA solution enables utilities to improve distribution network reliability, asset management, and quality of service."
